What is Environmental Education (E.E.)? "The goal of environmental education is to develop a world population that is aware of, and concerned about, the environment and its associated problems, and which has the knowledge, skills, attitudes, motivations, and commitment to work individually and collectively toward the solutions of current problems and the prevention of new ones." Environmental education encourages us to understand and develop connections with our immediate natural surroundings. Environmental education is, also, learner-centered and provides us with opportunities to construct our own understanding through hands-on, minds-on investigations. Engaged in direct experiences with nature, our visiting groups are challenged to use higher order thinking skills. These direct experiences involve using all of the senses, receiving input from sight, smell, taste, touch and sound. Exploration and adventure leads to learning and true learning is purposeful and fun. Whether you are a visiting group interested in just getting outdoors and exploring, or a group interested in meeting more specific E.E. outcomes (i.e. MN State Academic Standards), there is lots to explore in nature at Confidence Learning Center. If you are interested in more general nature awareness or nature interpretation activities go to our Nature Awareness/Interpretation page. If you are interested in meeting more specific environmental education outcomes, please go to our Environmental Education Curriculum or Academic Standards page. |
